Musician and Author Thomas J. Newell may be a former monk, but his latest musical offering “The Eternal: A Collection of Chants and Meditations” has a finger on both the pulse of the New Age and Christian music markets today. There are the traditional arrangements by harp and guitar that reflect his Celtic musical roots but this time around he has added the ethereal vocal stylings of Suzanne Deo (Second Soul Records) to his own making this a perfect CD for relaxation as well as spiritual contemplation.

Newell has also become more spiritually inclusive with age and for the first time has put his name on not only a Christian music CD, but a CD that includes chants and prayers from Jewish and Tibetan cultures as well. This release coincides with and compliments his latest book “Bringing People Together Through God” but still stands on it’s own in musical breakthrough from a pioneer in bringing melodic chanting to the masses which was his personal and private goal when he left the esteemed Abbott of San Clemons in 1997. Since then listeners have benefited from his extensive travels and the cultural richness of diversity it has brought to his music. This latest collection of chants and prayers turns over a new leaf on wisdom and messages of peace that are centuries old.
